New Delhi: A personal secretary to a Lok Sabha MP residing in Lutyens’ Delhi became the latest victim of cyber fraud, losing over ₹1.28 lakh while trying to book a train ticket online.
The incident took place on January 4, 2025, when the victim attempted to book a ticket for his daughter from Chennai to Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, using a mobile app. However, after making the payment, he did not receive a ticket. Seeking assistance, he searched online for a customer care number and unknowingly dialed a fraudulent helpline.
Soon after contacting the fake number, the fraudsters carried out three unauthorized transactions, siphoning off a total of ₹1,28,202 from his account. Realizing he had been duped, the victim promptly lodged a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
The case has been transferred to the Cyber Police Station for further investigation, with authorities working to trace the perpetrators and take legal action against them.
